Fishing the St. Lawrence Seaway

Brent Potter, of Wyckoff, New Jersey, currently functions as vice president of IT Security and Vulnerability Management for Morgan Stanley in New York, New York. In his free time, Brent Potter enjoys fishing and takes an annual trip to the St. Lawrence Seaway.

Running from the northeastern end of Lake Ontario to the Atlantic Ocean, the St. Lawrence River is 700 miles long with an average width of two miles and maximum depth of approximately 200 feet. It is the largest east-west river in North America and is great for recreational fishing.

There are many fish in the St. Lawrence, and fishermen occasionally catch largemouth bass, though smallmouth bass are more common. Northern pike are plentiful nearly year-round. In the winter time, fishermen can find them in bays near Cape Vincent and Wellesley Island. During the spring, northern pike are found in shallow weedy bays. Other common fish include panfish, which can be caught by both boat and shore fishermen, and the bullhead, which are most plentiful in early spring as the water warms.

Because the eyes should be over the ball, and the hips over the heels, finding a putter that accommodates this setup is crucial. A grip that goes down the shaft to accomplish this means that a shorter putter is required, whereas a grip that sees the hands go beyond the putter’s ends, a long...

One troubling recent trend is the rise in ransomware applications affecting the commercial marketplaces. Data published by the Cyber Threat Alliance reveals that more than $325 million in “ransom money” has been paid by companies who have fallen victim to the CryptoWall v3 threat. These types of attacks sequester important files through encryption and then hold the data ransom until the affected parties pay the “ransom” ...

Outside work, Brent Potter enjoys golfing. Putting can be one of the most difficult aspects of golf to master. That said, here are two quick tips for beginning golfers to keep in mind when trying to improve performance on the green. Make sure to use the proper form. Firmly grip the putter with both hands while keeping the arms and head still. The putting stroke works like a pendulum. Rock the shoulders straight back, and then swing them straight through the ball. The motion should be very smooth - no jerking or sudden movements. Learn the basics of “reading the green.” For example, if the grass appears to be a lighter shade than the other grass ...
